Helping Taranaki people live life warmer

Climate & Plumbing is pleased to be part of the Warmer Kiwi Homes programme offering heater grants to homeowners without adequate heating in Taranaki.

If you are eligible we can help you get up to 80% funding on the cost of an approved heat pump or wood burner for the main living area of your home (capped at $3000 incl. GST).

Are you eligible?

  • You own and live in a home built before 2008.
  • You (the owner) have a community services card or live in an area identified as low income.
  • You have ceiling and underfloor insulation installed to EECA standards.
  • Your home doesn’t already have one of the following fixed heaters that are operational in any living area of the house: heat pump, wood or pellet burner, flued gas heater, or central heating system. If your home has one of these heater types, it is not eligible for a heating grant.

What you can expect to pay

Heat pump — Depending on the size and brand of your heat pump expect the amount you will need to pay to be $400-$800. Our brand partners for Warmer Kiwi Homes are Daikin and Mitsubishi.  Our heat pumps provide instant heat and temperature control with a thermostat and have low running costs if used properly. Your unit will be sized to heat the room it’s installed in, they are not designed to heat the whole house.

Wood burner — Expect the amount you pay to be $2000-$3000. The price will depend on the brand and type of wood burner, the hearth type, flu length and type, and installation logistics. We have a wide range of efficient wood fires that are suitable for a grant. Wood burners require dry firewood stored in a sheltered space, ideally for at least 12 months, and have low running costs, even if you need to buy firewood.
